I like Will Smith. As an actor anyway, I really don't know him as a person. I really like the movie I, Robot, which is a futuristic action movie. Here is the very basics of the movie. In the future humans will have created robots to help them better live their lives. These robots are used in a variety of ways, but basically they are to improve the lives of humans. Anyway, something goes wrong and every robot, but one, goes bad. As I watched this movie for a third time I started seeing those "spiritual overtones" that some movies had. Whether this was intentional or not, if you watch and listen closely you will notice what I mean. Anyway, here are some quotes that I like.
Sonny (good robot):Do you think we were all created for a purpose? I'd like to think so.
and
What about the others? Now that I've fulfilled my purpose, I don't know what to do.
I think many people can relate to these two quotes. We all ask the question, what is our purpose. We seek this answer out in so many ways. It may be through jobs, family, friends, money, power, sex, alcohol, etc. We all long to have purpose. Everyone deep down wants to know there is meaning in life and that they aren't just here for no reason. The great thing is, is that we are all here for a purpose. We are here to glorify God. If you read throughout the Bible, we find that God's glory is a high priority for God and His desire is to use to magnify His name. That sounds selfish on God's part, but who else would you have be that way? You? Me? Your parents? Certainly the all knowing God, the God who created the universe and has redeemed us through the blood of His Son, Christ is worthy of our praise.
I think one problem Christians have is the second quote. We feel like we have fulfilled our purpose by being saved. Maybe we shared Christ some with others, or we taught Sunday School. A lot of times though, we like to sit around as though our purpose has been fulfilled. As long as we are alive on this earth we will never have fulfilled our purpose. Our soul purpose until our last breath will be to bring glory to God. It is to go spread the Gospel to the nations, telling them the Good News of Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection. He died for us to cleanse of us our sins and in that He is magnified and lifted high. The King of Kings came down as a man in humble circumstances and suffered for us. He is the Lion of Judah and the lamb that was slain. The king of all creation became the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind.
Understand that it is in God's glory that we find ourselves. We find satisfaction. Because it is in God's glory that we find blessings even in the midst of our sufferings. We find ourselves in awe of something greater than ourselves. That is refreshing to know there is someone greater than us because frankly it for it all to be about us, it would be kind of a let down. We can try and try, but things will never line up. What is our purpose? To glorify God and make His name known. What do we do when our purpose is done? Our purpose is never done as long as we live.
